March Arts Marathon:

Deb Sigel’s Illustrations

March Arts Marathon Participant: Deb Sigel

Mission: I’ll be experimenting to make amusing illustrations of bad design ideas, pages for a kids book, squirrels in a fantasy scene, or whatever comes to mind.

Message: As a product of eastern European refugees and hobby artist, I love supporting the March Arts Marathon fundraiser for CVRAN. It gives me great joy to produce unique art work in support refugees and asylum seekers, a cause in which I care about deeply. This is my 5th year supporting the Marathon, and I hope you’ll join me.

This year I’ll be experimenting with different types of illustration, from pen and ink with a dip stylus, ink brush work, use of acrylic in a layered style like watercolor, and more. My drawings are always amusing (because why spend time doing something unless it’s fun or funny), and range from random bad ideas for products (like a nose you put on your soap dispenser that makes hand soap look like snot), to illustrations for a board book or picture book. Sometimes I plan, and sometimes I go with the spur of the moment. As a sponsor you’ll get daily emails with these magical creations, and an opportunity to provide input into what I’ll be drawing next.

The March Arts Marathon has long been the backbone of CVRAN fundraising. Sponsors like you will be assisting with housing, living expenses, and legal fees for asylum seeker and refugee families as they come to Central Vermont.

The March Arts Marathon is a community effort. For six days each week in March poets, writers, painters, photographers, fabric artists, collage and multimedia artists will each send a copy of their daily work to friends and family. And friends and family will donate to support this work. Together we will be helping to welcome new Americans, who in turn will add immeasurably to our own communities.
