Legal Clinics at CVRAN’s Office

Beginning this spring, CVRAN will serve as a regional hub for expanded immigration legal services through a new partnership with the Vermont Asylum Assistance Project (VAAP) and Vermont Legal Aid (VLA).
About the Partnership
Daniel Schmidt, a Community Lawyering Fellow with VLA, is partnering with VAAP to increase the geographic reach of immigration legal services across Central Vermont. Through this collaboration, Daniel will hold regular legal clinic days at the CVRAN office, offering accessible, high‑quality support to immigrant community members. CVRAN’s office is located at 115 Main Street in the Bethany Church in downtown Montpelier.
How the Clinics Work
CVRAN will host approximately one clinic per month throughout 2026. Clinic offerings will vary based on community needs and the types of appointments requested. Formats may include:

- General immigration legal clinics with 90‑minute consultations
- Asylum application packet preparation clinics
- Employment Authorization Document (EAD) renewal clinics
- Other specialized clinics tailored to emerging needs
Anyone may request an appointment—you do not need to be a current CVRAN or VAAP client. We encourage community members and service providers to share this opportunity widely. In order to evaluate the demand and ensure equitable access to clinic appointments, we are currently booking people for one-time free consultation, not recurring meetings with Daniel.
Requesting an Appointment
Appointment requests are accepted on a rolling basis. To request a consultation:
- Email clinic@cvran.org
- Provide a brief explanation of what type of support you are seeking from a VAAP clinic
- A CVRAN volunteer will send you an intake form (please indicate if you need support from an interpreter or volunteer to complete the form)
- CVRAN and Daniel will review requests and schedule clinic dates based on the types of appointments needed
- We will then be in touch with requestors directly when a clinic date is scheduled that matches their stated needs
Who These Clinics Support
These clinics are intended for immigrant individuals and families residing in Central Vermont, including Washington County, lower Lamoille County, the Mad River Valley, and potentially clients from more distant areas.

Services may include:
- Understanding immigration options
- Preparing asylum applications
- Renewing work permits
- Navigating documentation requirements
- Accessing legal information and referrals
These appointments are not for seeking direct legal representation, and Daniel may refer individuals to the VAAP coordinated intake system. To ensure fair access for the broader community, individuals may not book recurring or repeated appointments.
Spread the Word
We invite community members, partner organizations, and local leaders to help share this resource. Increasing awareness helps ensure that individuals who need legal support can access it close to home.
