A story of civil rights and land ownership for Black farmers in Georgia

Equal Exchange sources their pecans from Cypress Pond, a for-profit farm affiliated with a network of civil rights and community organizations working in southwest Georgia since the 1960s. These pecans are grown on land once owned by the largest slave owner in Georgia, now owned by descendants of slaves.
In line with Equal Exchange’s philosophy on economic transformation through trade, New Communities at Cypress Pond uses the sale of these and other agricultural items produced on the farm as vehicles to create social change. Buying these pecans supports Black farmers, civil rights, and community development.
