March Arts Marathon Participant: Mary Reardon
Mission: I will be using digital media to produce drawings and paintings: landscapes, still lifes, and random imagined scenarios from my brain.
Message: As an artist and teacher of English to immigrant/refugee-background/asylum-seeking adults, I could not pass up the chance to bring my two worlds together and do something to support this worthy cause. I am currently using digital media to create drawings and paintings—my life is very full, and I just can’t face washing another paintbrush. My work ranges from realism to cartoonish to abstracted-yet-still-representational. The subject matter may be a landscape, a simple still life, or a random guy encountering an opossum. Whatever I create, it typically brings a smile or a laugh to my viewers, and I think we could all use a momentary glimmer of joy each day. I will be sharing work with my sponsors through email. I hope you enjoy seeing my work as much as I enjoy making it!
The March Arts Marathon has long been the backbone of CVRAN fundraising. Sponsors like you will be assisting with housing, living expenses, and legal fees for asylum seeker and refugee families as they come to Central Vermont.
The March Arts Marathon is a community effort. For six days each week in March poets, writers, painters, photographers, fabric artists, collage and multimedia artists will each send a copy of their daily work to friends and family. And friends and family will donate to support this work. Together we will be helping to welcome new Americans, who in turn will add immeasurably to our own communities.
