One Step Closer To Education For All
Can you imagine living in Vermont for years, but not being able to get a loan or scholarship to go to UVM or one of the state colleges? Can you feel the frustration of Governor Scott because there aren’t enough workers in Vermont and not enough people coming out of local colleges or training programs to work in Vermont? What can we do?
The legislature, following the initiative of Migrant Justice, has created a wonderful solution! Now all persons living in Vermont, regardless of their immigration status, are eligible for advanced training and college loans on the same basis as all Vermonters. Portions of Act 136 – New American Educational Grant Opportunities – become law on July 1 2024.
Many organizations teamed up with Migrant Justice to make this legislation possible, including CVRAN and all the other asylum seeker organizations in Vermont. What a great example of creating change through collaboration and advocacy among many groups!
