A Successful 2023 March Arts Marathon – THANK YOU!

April 3, 2023 0 Comments

The 2023 March Arts Marathon ended last Friday. I’m sure that our 35 participating artists were happy to see the end of the month arrive! They kept up with their daily posts all month, sharing their progress on projects big and small. It’s no small thing to create something everyday, write about it, and then share with your marathon sponsors.

The Central Vermont Refugee Action Network (CVRAN) hosts the Arts Marathon as a major fundraising event. This year, the Marathon’s third year, we had more than 800 people answer the call for donations! They generously provided over $44,000 to help CVRAN support refugees, asylum seekers, and migrant workers in Vermont. Thank you, thank you, thank you to donors for helping our new neighbors!  Thank you, thank you, thank you to the artists, Marathon coordinator Nicky Morris, and webpage manager Ben Witte for making this all possible!

Artists shared their work through our 2023 Final Gallery – you can find it on the CVRAN website here. You can see, listen, and read some of the great projects that were completed during the Marathon. If you’d like to see some work in person, here are a few events that are coming up:

  • R.D Eno and Nicky Morris are giving a poetry reading.  The other readers generously sponsored marathon artists.

Jewish Poets Read – Sunday, April 30, 2023, 2–4 p.m. This will be an in-person event at the Beth Jacob Synagogue, 10 Harrison Avenue, Montpelier. Charlie Barasch, Judith Chalmer, R.D. Eno, Nadell Fishman, Andrea Gould, and Nicola Morris will read poems. There will be plenty of time for questions and refreshments! Also, authors’ recent books will be available for sale and signing. Contact Nicola Morris at nicolamorris@mac.com for more information.

  • Ink and watercolor works by Caroline Tavelli-Abar at Art etc. in Randolph during April and May. The opening will be on Friday April 7, from 5 – 7pm at Art etc., 26 North Main Street, in Randolph.

Full Circle: The ink and watercolor images in this show share a journey through incredibly stormy times, emerging with a renewed sense of resilience, vulnerability and courage. The figure works are thought of as self-portraits navigating mental illnesses from depression to bipolar disorder and beyond. The poetry, and the invisible words share a profound love of something magical in all of us. Together these works explore time, nature, our humanity and speak to days of peace imbued with hope, and a renewed sense of adventure. The show honors the changing of the seasons as well.
