Volunteers put sweat equity into helping an asylum seeking family

Many CVRAN volunteers heeded the call to help an asylum seeking family paint their new apartment in early July.

A total of 18 people volunteered for hours over 4 days recently. We painted doors, windows, walls, and hard to reach vaulted ceilings. A few volunteers had never painted before and still they showed up.

Several skilled carpenters and painters joined the group. We laughed, groaned, spilled paint, and talked as we worked hard together. An experienced builder installed locks and door handles and latches. One day we had volunteers from 6 different nations (from the continents of Asia, Africa, North and South America )helping the family members get the job done. The owners of the apartment were very impressed with the outpouring of volunteer energy to help. The amateur painters from ages 11-81 got to know each other, and even though speaking different languages, bonded over the desire to support the family and see how the fresh paint transformed their living space. As everyone pitched in so willingly we built community.
