Central Vermont Refugee Action Network is one of six grassroots organizations across Vermont who are partnering to get asylum-seekers out of immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers and resettled in local communities. So far twenty asylum seekers are being housed here and given legal representation while they await their court hearings. As we work to offer asylum seekers a safe, peaceful place to live, the arrival of these new Vermonters enriches our community lives.
In a Giving Tuesday fundraiser on Tuesday, December 1, the six groups, members of the NH-VT Asylum Seekers Network, have joined in a statewide effort to raise $10,000 to support the asylum seekers already in our state and to provide legal bonds and local sponsorship for others who are detained in crowded and inhumane conditions.
On Giving Tuesday on December 1st, please support our organizations in Brattleboro, Randolph, Burlington, and St. Johnsbury, along with CVRAN in Montpelier, as we work to welcome asylum seekers to Vermont. to contribute before December 1st, send a check to CASP (Community Asylum Seekers Project), P.O. Box 1355, Brattleboro, VT 05302, writing “Giving Tuesday” on the memo line. Or on December 1st donate directly on CASP’s website: https://caspVT/givingtuesday/
